Testament SBT1047 (recorded July 1957 & December 1954*; this CD release 1995)
(flac and scans - not my rip. Thanks to the original uploader.)
Recording venue: Abbey Road Studios, London & Kiel Auditorium, St Louis*
Recording engineers: Christopher Parker & Frank Abbey*; Producer: Richard C Jones
This classic recording of the Goldmark concerto is posted here as it seems to have become difficult to find elsewhere. Milstein's outstanding performance makes the music sound rather better than it is and has never been exceeded. On a personal note, it is good to see the fine conductor Harry Blech in a rare recording. He was the conductor of the London Mozart Players for many years and held open rehearsals which I frequently attended in my teens.
Unfortunately, the mono coupling is just four movements of the Symphonie espagnole with the Intermezzo omitted (as was quite common at the time). I would have much preferred to have the missing movement rather than out-takes from the recording of the Goldmark concerto as a fill up. The booklet contains a reminiscence of the recording sessions by that doyen of British orchestra leaders, Hugh Bean.
